Post-operative Care

Performing everyday tasks can be difficult or physically impossible for those recovering from serious illness or convalescing after surgery. CommuniCare’s carers and nurses can take the weight off your shoulders by providing you with all the help you need to get on with your daily activities until you’re back to your old self again.

Aspects of recovery or convalescence care include assistance with mobility, assistance with medication, prevention of clots and other complications of prolonged rest, providing psychological support and a positive, encouraging environment, preventing infection and providing a safe physical environment. Our carers and nurses are trained, both during induction and on an ongoing basis, to deliver consistently good care to help ensure a smooth, complication-free recovery.

This includes making sure your home environment is safe and conducive to recovery. Keeping the environment clean & uncluttered, furniture arranged in safe fashion, the recommendation and provision of living aids, ensuring rooms are well-lit during care and that hygiene needs are attended daily in a safe and dignified manner. Our carers will assist with light housekeeping duties, ensure you have all you need within reach, remove potential obstacles and hidden dangers (e.g. slippery floors). They will also provide you with meals as needed, assist with shopping and mail collection, prompt you at medication times, help with any recovery exercises and provide a positive encouraging presence with which to help you recover in the best of spirits.
